ALBION, Mich. – Pitcher Matt Temrowski capped a strong sophomore season with a complete game and outfielder Michael Fischbach collected four hits to finish the season as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's batting champion as Albion College split its final doubleheader of the season.

Albion closed the season 18-22 overall and 13-15 in games against league rivals.

"I think we had a lot of opportunities that we didn't take advantage of," Albion Head Coach Scott Carden said. "We never gave up, never stop competing. "

Temrowski (4-3) threw the first complete game of his collegiate career, catcher Joshua Fischer drove in three runs and seniors Lee Madziar and Dan Mills added two RBI apiece as Albion defeated Alma, 10-2, in game one.

Temrowski commanded his fastball to finish with two runs on nine hits and a walk. He struck out four.

Albion scored six times in the fifth inning and it added three more in the sixth. Mills and Kyle Kowal led Albion's 13-hit attack with three hits apiece. Joshua Fischer and Shane Lindemann added two hits each.

Senior center fielder Brendan Diamond went 6-for-6 and scored four runs, but Albion was unable to protect a 7-2 lead in a 16-14 loss in game two. Mills contributed two hits and three RBI and Madziar had two hits and two RBI.

"It was great to see our seniors go out on a good note, perform well," Carden said. "They left it on the field and put us in position to win."

Fischbach finished the 28-game league schedule with a .417 batting average, collecting 35 hits in 84 at-bats. He slugged nine doubles, two triples, and three home runs and drove in 15 runs.

In statistics for all 40 games, Fischbach collected 53 hits, a figure that ranks third in Albion's single-season record book.
