OLIVET, Mich. – When asked to assess his team's performance in the Olivet College Invitational, Albion College track coach Lance Coleman said he would have to go back to count the number of season- and personal-best performances.
Coleman described the meet as low-key coming off the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree a week ago. Albion still wound up finishing at the top of the team standings with 73 points. Olivet was 10 points behind and Saginaw Valley State (23) and Adrian College (11) also scored.
Angela Morrison was impressive in improving in the heptathlon. Competing in the event for just the second time in her career, Morrison produced a season-best in the 200 meters (27.21) and she achieved personal best outcomes in the 100 hurdles (16.40), high jump (5' ¼"), shot put (28' 7 ¾"), javelin throw (82' 3") and 800 meters (2:32.97).
Maicey Peterson achieved the second-best time in school history in winning the 100 hurdles (15.78). Katie Clark finished second, gaining the sixth-best time in school history at 16.38.
Peterson also secured a runner-up finish in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9' 6 ¼".
Clark led a group of Britons in the triple jump with a runner-up finish of 33' 6". Rhiki Swinton was third (33' ¼") and Camille Sawicki was fourth (32' 5 ½").
Sarah Kirchner was close to her personal best in winning the discus throw (112' 7") and she was the runner-up in the shot put at 31' 5 ¾". Abby Voglewede was second in the discus throw at 102' 6".
Albion scored well in the distance events with Leanne Wegley winning the 800 (2:26.48) and 1,500 (5:03.49) races and Emily Allison running first in the 3,000 (11:57.94).
Albion will tune up for the April 30-May 1 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Field Day by entering the Hillsdale College "Gina" Relays next weekend.
