Box Score ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College women's lacrosse team is focused on its game plan as it manages playing three contests in a five-day period.
Mackenzie Novak scored twice in the first 3:13 of the contest, allowing Coach Shanta Loecker the opportunity to substitute liberally, as Albion coasted to a 16-4 victory over Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Adrian College.
"When you have three games in a week you have to honor the opponents while focusing on the things you've worked on (in practice)," Loecker said. "We came out and played solid. It allowed us to utilize every player in the first half."
Novak assisted on scores by Lauren Wiegand and Shannon Kahl as Albion extended the margin to 4-0 with 18:31 remaining in the first half.
Albion continued to pour it on, getting goals from Kadie Koolwick, Julie Wood, and Ashley Glenn to forge a 7-0 lead midway through the first half. Wood and Koolwick tacked on their second goals of the night as the Britons owned a 9-0 lead at halftime.
Almost missed in the scoring was how goalkeeper Victoria Della Pia kept her team from giving the momentum away. While Annika Nuler scored three times for Adrian, Della Pia prevented the Bulldogs' quick attacker from finishing other transition opportunities.
"Victoria was as solid as ever," Loecker said. "She stopped any momentum they could have created on the fast break.
"It felt like both teams were working hard," Loecker added. "We focused on making one play at a time without getting complacent."
Wood added three more goals in the second half, giving her five for the night and 35 for the season. Novak collected four goals and three assists to raise her team-leading point total to 63. Koolwick also produced four goals and controlled the draw six times.
Albion, 11-2 overall and 5-1 against MIAA rivals, will play its final regular season home game at 7 o'clock Thursday when it welcomes the team from Trine University to the Schmidt-Fraser Field inside Sprankle-Sprandel Stadium.
