KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Albion College prevented Kalamazoo College from gaining sole possession of first place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association baseball standings when it took a 5-4 victory in the second game of a doubleheader at Woodworth Field Friday afternoon.

Albion has won three league contests in games decided by a run.

Steven Marowski doubled to center with one out in the sixth to score Jack Wyman with the winning run.

Zach Maresh (3-0) made the run stand up as he worked around a two-out single in the seventh. Maresh's final line included four runs on seven hits and five walks in his first complete game of the season.

Michael Fischbach and Shane Lindemann accounted for most of Albion's offense prior to the seventh. Both went 3-for-4 at the plate. Fishchbach now has 31 runs batted in this season after driving in Lindemann twice, slugging a double in the first inning and sending a triple to the left-center gap in the third. Fischbach scored on Wyman's sacrifice fly in the third.

Albion had to settle for a split after taking a 4-0 loss in game one. Starting pitcher Craig Conway retired the first 13 batters he faced, but the Kalamazoo batters made adjustments and started taking better swings in the fifth. The Hornets hit three singles and took advantage of two Briton errors to score four times in the sixth. Conway (2-2) was charged with two earned runs, three hits and two walks.

Albion was limited to three singles in game one. Lindemann collected two hits and Jordan Fujarski had the other.

Albion (11-9 overall and 5-5 against MIAA rivals) is scheduled to complete the series with Kalamazoo with a 1 o'clock Saturday doubleheader at Frank Joranko Field.
