KENOSHA, Wis. – Gerardo Huidobro won two more events and was part of the third place team in the 200-yard medley relay as Albion College completed the first half of the swimming & diving season at the Carthage Classic.
Huidobro completed the 200 butterfly in 1:53.98, a time that leaves him a second shy of Ed Weber's school record set in 1994. Huidobro came back to set a winning time of 4:39.33 in the 500 freestyle to finish ahead of teammates Mac Robertson and Kyle Harvey.
Huidobro joined Ian Moran, Len Ciemniecki and Sebastian Tostado on Albion's "B" entry in the medley relay.
"Gerardo won every individual event he entered," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said. "He's more comfortable this year. This weekend was a good representation of the work he's put in so far this season."
Albion achieved first place in both relays contested on the day. The Britons "A" entry in the medley relay (Alec Nyboer, Tyler Kimbrell, Nate Kozycki and Derek Bosko) finished in 1:32.22 and Bosko, Tostado, Kozycki and Ciemniecki set a time of 3:04.49 to earn a four-second margin of victory in the 400 freestyle relay.
Tostado added first place in the 200 freestyle and Bosko sprinted past the field in the 50 freestyle.
Albion's depth was on display throughout the session as Kimbrell was the runner-up in a pair of events (100 individual medley and 100 breaststroke), Kyle Harvey was third in the 400 IM and Ian Moran and Nyboer were second and third, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Nyboer also finished third in the 200 freestyle.
"We will have tough decisions to make when we have to declare a scoring lineup for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championship in February," Taber said. "That's a good problem to have.
"We learned more about our training needs," Taber added. "We learned about how tough our people are and how they respond when you compound swims in a short window."
Divers Jake Burris, Henry Swett and Jacob Maurer also contributed to Albion's second place finish in the team standings. Burris scored first place in the 1-meter competition and was the runner-up in 3-meter. Swett was third in both events. Maurer was fourth in 1-meter.
