GREENSBORO, N.C. – Derek Bosko picked up honorable mention awards in the 100-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle relay Saturday as Albion College completed a successful run in the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships.
Albion collected 40 points to finish 24th in the meet, the highest finish in school history. The Britons finished 25th in 1993 and 26th in 1994.
Head Coach Jake Taber was proud of the way the Britons moved up in the evening.
Bosko was 16th after going 45.17 in his preliminary swim in the morning, but he improved to 10th with a time of 44.83 in the evening consolation race. He went even faster – 44.41 – in anchoring the freestyle relay that finished 14th. Sebastian Tostado, Tom Parsons and Parker Belmore swam the first three legs of the relay.
Bosko, Belmore and Tostado gained honorable mention status in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relay events. Parsons was a member of the 400 and 800 teams, and Nate Kozycki was the fourth member in the 200.
First-year divers Jake Burris and Henry Swett also contributed to Albion's team score during the meet, finishing sixth and 15th, respectively, in 1-meter diving.
"I'm proud of the way this group has maintained its focus," Taber said. "This group didn't have a fall break, a holiday break or a spring break, but it was rewarded with the experience at this meet.
"On paper, next year shapes up as a potentially exciting year," he added. "Hopefully, we'll come back to this meet next year with more people and more experience."
