DEFIANCE, Ohio – Justin Meredith won the 100- and 200-meter sprints and Richard Annorat and Jephte Jean-Claude scored in multiple events to lead Albion College to a runner-up finish in the Dick Small Invitational.
The Britons finished with 119 ½ points to finish 49 points shy of the pace set by Case Western Reserve University.
Meredith, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's MVP in indoor track, is picking up where he left off. He finished the 100 in 10.84 seconds and the 200 in 22.18. Robert Peterson continues to improve, setting a personal record in 200 meters (23.89).
Meredith joined Nick Bertoia, Radouane Ziani and Christopher Bratt for a third place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:30.49).
Annorat cleared 6' 2 ¾" to win the high jump and he finished third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.74) and fourth in the triple jump. Jean-Claude was the runner-up in the triple jump, third in the long jump and fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.78).
Bratt achieved a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
Albion's best event in terms of depth for scoring was the 400-meter dash where Ziani finished fourth, Kyle Braun was fifth and Bertoia was sixth. Bertoia added a third place finish in the javelin, reaching a personal best of 152' 10".
Albion also accounted for four of the top nine throwers in the javelin. Jeremy Shepard and Jean-Claude threw for the first time placing eighth and ninth, respectively. Dan Fick placed sixth in the event.
The men's 4x800 relay of Zack Vanderkooi, Evan Rieth, Peter Hamann, and Will Michels took fourth place with a time of 9:06.37.
Albion is scheduled to send student-athletes to meets at Washington (Mo.) University and Alma College next weekend.
