Box Score ALBION, Mich. – Kadie Koolwick took charge to prevent Albion College from losing its share of first place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse standings.
Koolwick scored twice, including the game-winner with 13 minutes left, and won seven draw controls in the second half as Albion escaped with a 9-7 victory over Kalamazoo College.
"Energy, confidence," Albion Head Coach Shanta Loecker said of the difference as the Britons overcame a 5-2 halftime deficit. "Kadie took charge of both ends of the field."
Ariella Ruiz finished a free position shot and Julie Wood and Koolwick tacked on goals as Albion forged a 5-5 tie 4 ½ minutes into the second half.
The teams traded goals as the score was tied 6-6 and 7-7.
Albion jumped out to the early lead behind goals from Cait Gaitley and Wood. Kalamazoo goalkeeper Katie Johnson took over from there, frustrating the Britons by making 18 saves.
Nicole Huff scored twice for Kalamazoo in the first half and Anna Dairaghi produced a goal in each half.
Up next for Albion is a Saturday game at Adrian College.
