OLIVET, Mich. – It was a bittersweet day for Albion College sprinter on the second day of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Track & Field Championships.
Meredith, a senior from Detroit, won the league title in the 100 meters. With a time of 10.76 seconds, he edged Hope College's Boone Marois (10.80) and Justin Freeman (10.84).
Meredith had the top qualifying time (22 seconds flat) in the 200, but he did not finish the final after pulling up with a hamstring injury.
Before the 200, Meredith joined Jeremy Shepherd, Jephte Jean-Claude and Sean Thomas on the 4x100 relay that finished third with a time of 42.47 seconds.
Mitchell Clinton delivered Albion's other individual title. The senior from Plymouth completed the steeplechase in 9:33.20 to win by a six-second margin over Calvin College's Bret Habura.
Albion reaped a bunch of points in the 110-meter hurdles as Jean-Claude achieved a runner-up finish (15.72 seconds), Richard Annorat earned the bronze medal and Chris Bratt finished seventh. Bratt later raced to sixth in the 400 hurdles.
Nick Bertoia scored in the 400 meters, finishing seventh.
In field events, the high jump was Albion's most successful event as Zachary Osbourne cleared 6' 7 ½" to finish second and Annorat was seventh. Jean-Claude added a seventh-place performance in the triple jump.
Albion finished fifth in the team standings with 75 points. Calvin College (232 ½), Hope (160), Trine University (140 ½) and Adrian College (93) were the top four teams.
