KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Cait Gaitley and Lauren Wiegand combined for seven goals in the second half as Albion College pulled away for a 16-10 victory over Kalamazoo College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's lacrosse action Tuesday night.

The teams traded goals as the score was tied, 7-7, 2 ½ minutes into the second half.

Wiegand scored Albion's next three goals as the Britons forged a 10-8 lead. Her fifth goal of the night extended the margin to 12-8 midway through the second half. Wiegand also chipped in on the hustle metrics, controlling five draws and scooping a pair of ground balls.

Gaitley tacked on three goals – giving her four for the night – and Ariella Ruiz converted a free position shot for her first goal of the season as Albion pulled away for a 16-8 lead with three minutes to play.

"We didn't change anything physically on the field. It was about taking ownership for where the focus should be – on our own squad," Head Coach Shanta Loecker said.

"This contest was an example of how much Cait has improved," Loecker added. "She fought through everything. She was getting rebounds and ground balls. I give her a lot of credit because she is growing into an all-around threat all over the field."

Taylor Nelson (three goals), Shannon Kahl (two goals) and Kate Mullins (goal, assist) also got involved in the scoring for Albion. Kahl also controlled five draws and collected five ground balls.

First-year goalkeeper Jenina Villabroza stood tall, collecting 10 saves.

Caroline Mundell and Vethania Stavropoulos combined to score seven goals for Kalamazoo.

Albion (3-6 overall and 2-1 against MIAA rivals) completes the week with a 5 o'clock Friday home game against Saint Mary's College.
