Women's Soccer earns shutout victory over Trine

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. – Albion College picked up a 2-0 result over Trine University Saturday afternoon to complete the first week of women's soccer action in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association with a 2-0 record.

Emily Wolford scored Albion's first half goal, assisted by Emily Brittain. Wolford's shot tailed just under the crossbar and out of the reach of the Trine goalkeeper.

Samantha LaRocca produced the second half goal, assisted by Riley Burnette.

"I thought we did a good job recovering from a slow start and a strong push from Trine," Albion Head Coach Eric Scott said. "Trine Coach Terry Stefankiewicz always got them ready to go, and today was no different. After we settled down, I thought we did some good things. Everyone played well today, but goalkeeper Megan Bricely, the whole back line (Maggie Shrader, Alyssa Brooks, Mikenna Ray, Lexi Taylor and Brittain), and Riley Burnette especially pulled the rope throughout. It's always nice when Emily Wolford scores, because it means she's getting in spaces higher up the field."

Trine got the first scoring chance in the match. Kristen Reece put a shot on goal from the far right side in the 13th minute, but Bricely got just enough of her hand on the ball to send it just wide of the left post.

Courtney Reece had an opportunity to pull Trine even in the 61st minute, taking a hard shot from the top of the box that forced Bricely to making a leaping play. Bricely knocked the ball down to the turf and scrambled to cover it.

Bricely collected three saves to gain credit for her second shutout of the season.

"While we love the 2-0 start in the conference, everyone knows it is a long season," Scott added. "There is certainly a lot of soccer to be played."

Albion (5-5-1 overall) begins the second week of MIAA action with a 4 o'clock Tuesday match at Alma College.
