Box Score ALBION, Mich. - Albion's home streak comes to an end after a 60-38 loss to Michigan Collegiate Athletic Association opponent #3 Hope. Despite never leading, the Britons kept it close against nationally-ranked Hope. It was a defensive battle to start the game as both teams went scoreless from the six to two-minute mark.
Hope held a 17-10 lead at the end of the first after Albion held them to 36% from three. It was Emily Bernas who kept the Britons within reach in the first half going 4-6 from three.
"Being a senior and being in situations like this. We beat Hope at home her freshman year, so she has been in these games, and for her to come out and play well was great. It was good to see her come out and play with a ton of confidence against them," Said Head Coach Doreen Carden.
It was a game mostly dominated by the starting five for both teams. The starters accounted for 88 of the total 98 points scored in tonight's contest. Hope won the rebound battle 42-28 with Elena Welker leading the Britons with nine rebounds. Along with her 18 points, Emily Bernas added four steals on the defensive end.
"All these games are learning experiences. We need to get better every single day and have a lot of seasons left. We are still competing for the top two spots. We might see them again in the tournament, and anything can happen, you have to stay positive," Said Head Coach Doreen Carden.
Albion's defense held Hope to 40% from the field while forcing 20 turnovers. Eight offensive rebounds for the Britons converted to five second-chance points with an additional seven points coming off of turnovers. Despite the loss, Albion still maintains third place in the MIAA conference standings.
