Box Score BEVERLY HILLS Mich. – The Albion College women's lacrosse team faced-off against Lawrence Technological University at the Detroit Country Day School on Saturday, Feb. 15. Inside the fieldhouse, the Blue Devils (1-0, 0-0) topped the Britons (0-1, 0-0) 22-10 in a high-scoring affair.
In the first half, Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 5-1 lead with sophomores Gabi Mitchell and Anna Gagnon scoring two apiece. Senior goaltender Jenina Villabroza made impressive saves early on including a penalty shot save and back-to-back saves to keep the game within reach. Sophomore Chrystelle Lopez scored the first two goals for Albion, taking advantage of a penalty shot and adding another goal halfway through the first to cut the deficit to three.
Sophomore Carly Schwarz, senior Kate Mullins, and Lopez would each contribute another score before the half. Then, with under two minutes remaining, Villabroza stuffed the Blue Devils on a penalty shot opportunity to hold LTU to a 9-5 lead going into the half.
Albion sophomore keeper Alexis Robinson brought some energy to the Britons making two point-blank saves. She followed this up with a desperation save on a penalty shot minutes later. The Blue Devils opened up the second half scoring six goals in the first eight minutes as they began to pull away. However, Schwarz stepped up for Albion, netting three goals halfway through the period to make it a 16-9 game with 16:16 left.
Multiple Blue Devils added to the lead to go on a 6-1 stretch to finish the game with a final score of 22-10. Lawrence Tech's Gabi Mitchell registered 11 points (6g, 5a) while teammate Ann Gagnon put up nine (4g, 5a).
Lopez recorded a hat-trick with three goals on five shots on the afternoon. Schwarz frustrated the Blue Devils scoring five goals and picking up two groundballs.
The Albion College women's lacrosse team will return to the Detroit Country Day School next Saturday, Feb. 22 at 8 p.m. as they take on Carroll University (WI).

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.
