Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- On Senior Night, the Albion College women's basketball team shined in a 100-43 win over Kalamazoo College. Prior to the game, the Britons recognized lone senior Rain Hinton along with team managers Ciara Beal and Jaz Dykes.
Sophomore Elena Welker paced the offense with 21 points on an efficient 8 of 9 shooting night, including a perfect 3 for 3 from deep. Hinton added 17 points for the Brits, while freshman Lauren Reed scored a career-high 13 points and recorded three steals. Reed, Hinton and Cierra Cole each dished out three assists.
From the opening tip Albion held total control, leading 21-0 after just five minutes. Albion pressed the Hornets and forced the visitors into turnovers, leading to a large early lead. A late layup from Da'Leshia Davis gave the hosts a 30-6 advantage after one.
With all momentum in favor of Albion, the Britons pulled ahead to inflate their lead to 56-18 at the half. The Britons continued their hot shooting and pressure defense into the second half, before Olivia Dameron's late bucket sealed the score at 100 points.
Off the bench, Beth Chick tallied a career-high 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Sophomore guard Nicole Sweetland added nine for the Britons.
Davis and Amanda Larson totaled six rebounds apiece. The Britons shot 60 percent from the floor, including 57 percent from beyond the arc, in the win. Kalamazoo struggled, connecting on just two 3-pointers.
The Britons forced Kalamazoo to commit 22 turnovers, which they cashed in for 27 points at the other end. Albion's bench outscored the visitors, 44-19.
Albion has now won nine straight matchups over the Hornets. With the win, Albion improves to 4-4 overall while the Hornets slip to 0-5.
The 100 points were the most in a game since a 104-46 win over Great Lakes Christian on Nov. 30.
On Wednesday, the Brits will travel to Kalamazoo to take on the Hornets in a conference matchup. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
