Box Score OLIVET, Mich. -- Winners of three straight, the Albion College women's basketball team had a number of stellar performances in an 81-46 win over Olivet College on Saturday afternoon. Albion improves to 5-4 overall, 3-1 in the MIAA while Olivet slips to 1-6, 1-4 in league action.
With a game-high 18 points, sophomore guard Elena Welker led the offense. Senior Rain Hinton was the only other Albion player in double figures, adding 10 points for the visitors.
On the glass, Amanda Larson brought down 14 rebounds. Freshman Lauren Reed grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in the win. A balanced box score helped the Brits, as Reed (eight points), Rebecca Ross (nine points) and Dareonna Little (nine points) all contributed big minutes.
After a tight first quarter, the Brits scored the final five points of the period to increase their lead to 10 points. The run started with a three off the hand of Ross to give Albion a 23-13 lead after one.
A monstrous second quarter by the Britons gave the visitors a comfortable lead, outsourcing Olivet, 22-8. Welker scored seven of her 18 points in the second quarter.
The sizeable lead would be more than enough for Albion, as they would maintain control for the remainder of the contest.
Albion has now won nine straight over the Comets.
In total, Albion hauled in 64 rebounds compared to Olivet's 36. The Britons dominated the inside game, outsourcing the Comets in the paint, 52-26.
Monday's non conference matchup against Olivet has been canceled. The Britons are currently scheduled to travel to Adrian College on Wednesday evening. The schedule is subject to change, and as always, we will keep you updated at gobrits.com.
