Four score in double digits in MBB road win

Box Score

OLIVET, Mich. -- From the opening tip, an energized Albion College men's basketball team controlled the tempo, defeating Olivet College 97-55. Senior Juwan Perry scored nine of the first 11 Albion points to help secure a lead the Brits would not relinquish.

With their fourth win in a row, the Britons improve to 7-2 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the MIAA. The Comets drop to 1-14, 0-4 in the conference.

The 17 points set a new season-high for Perry. Cortez Garland continued his stellar junior year with 18 points and six assists -- both game-highs. Senior forward Caden Ebeling turned in another solid performance with 15 points and eight rebounds.

In addition to Ebeling, the Britons got spectacular performances on the glass from Devin Holmes and Justin McAbee. Holmes brought down seven boards while McAbee registered a new career-high with nine.

A pair of early transition buckets by Perry set the tone early, as Albion cruised to an 11-2 lead led by the senior. With the Britons holding on to a six point advantage, Garland buried a three to spark a 10-0 run by the visitors. The run was capped by another trey -- this one coming off the hand of freshman Chanse Crittendon. The sharp-shooting Crittendon was a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc, scoring a career-high 14 points.

With six minutes before the break, Perry nailed a 3-pointer to ignite another small Albion. With the bench stepping up, points from Quinton Armstrong, Justin McAbee and Jaylen Ross helped boost the Briton lead to as many as 25 points. Olivet would score the final five points of the half, as Albion led 45-25 at the break.

Out of the half, the Comets started the new half on a small run to cut the deficit to 14 points. Junior MJ Barnes silenced the Comets, draining back-to-back threes to restore the 20-point Albion lead.

The visitors would go on to enjoy a comfortable lead for the rest of the game to keep their conference record spotless.

The Britons connected on 47 percent of their field goals, including 44 percent from deep. Albion currently leads the MIAA in points per game (85.6), field goal percentage (50.2), three point percentage (41.4) and free throw percentage (75.0).

Currently, the Britons are scheduled to host Adrian College on Wednesday evening. Game time against the Bulldogs is slated for 7:30 p.m. The schedule is subject to change, and as always, we will keep you updated at gobrits.com.
