WLAX trips up Trine in opener

Box Score

ANGOLA, Ind. -- After 347 days, the Albion College women's lacrosse team returned to the field with a 20-10 win over Trine University. Offensively, the Britons were led by junior midfielder Chrystelle Lopez, who registered six goals and an assist.

Junior transfer Alexa Wild made an immediate impact with four goals on the afternoon. Senior attacker Abby Sheklow added a pair of goals and three assists, bringing her to 99 career points.

Albion scored the first five goals of the contest, as Sheklow found Wild less than a minute in. The next two Briton goals came from senior Kierstin Rose, one unassisted and the other off a feed from fellow senior Carly Schwarz. Rose ended the day with three goals.

Schwarz raced past the Thunder defense and found the back of the net before Lopez's first goal of the season increased the Albion lead to 5-0 midway through the first half.

Trine answered with two goals in a 45 second period to cut into the Albion lead. The teams traded the next four goals before Wild and Destiny Okon closed out the first half scoring for the visitors, giving the Britons a 9-4 lead at the half.

Just 10 seconds into the new half, Lopez connected with Schwarz to quickly give Albion the momentum. Three minutes later, Sheklow found Addie Pastor to boost the Briton lead to 11-4. Following a Thunder goal, Albion answered with two goals in a minute period. Goals by Wild and Lopez put the Brits back up by eight.

With 15 minutes to play, the Britons rattled off a 4-0 run to put them over the 10 goal threshold and keep the clock running.

Okon and Schwarz scored two goals each while Pastor tallied a goal and an assist. Okon also caused a pair of turnovers while Lopez recorded 11 draw controls.

Junior goalie Alexis Robinson made 16 saves and scooped up four ground balls.

The Brits were near-perfect on the clear, completing 17 of 19 attempts. Albion also turned in a 3 for 7 day on free position shots, with all three goals coming from Lopez.

Both teams tallied 16 draw controls each. Albion outshot Trine, 40-32.

The Britons will have a week off before their next contest. Currently Albion is slated to host Alma College on Feb. 27 for a non conference matchup. First draw is scheduled for 1 p.m. The schedule is subject to change, and as always, we will keep you updated at gobrits.com.
