ALBION -- Led by a six-goal effort by Chrystelle Lopez, the Albion College women's lacrosse team defeated Alma College, 16-9, in their home opener. In the win, senior Abby Sheklow tallied her 100th career point, thanks to a four goal performance.

The Britons got on the board first when Addie Pastor found Carly Schwarz six minutes into the contest. After the Scots tied it, Albion went on to scored the next five goals over a six minute span. In that stretch, Lopez, Sheklow, Pastor (2) and Alexa Wild all found the back of the net for the Britons.

With 2:11 before the half, Alma briefly broke up the Albion momentum with their second goal of the afternoon. Unfazed, Sheklow and Wild added goals in the final 97 seconds to give the hosts an 8-2 lead at the half.

In the first 90 seconds of the second half, a pair of Scot goals trimmed the Albion lead in half. Lopez capitalized on a free position shot to increase the Briton lead to five.

With 13:22 remaining, Albion was clinging to a 12-9 advantage. The Britons went on to score the final four goals of the contest to secure the win in the team's home opener.

Pastor, a sophomore, turned in a complete stat line with two goals, two assists and a caused turnover.

In addition her six goals, Lopez -- the reigning MIAA Offensive Player of the Week -- dished out an assist, recorded 15 draw controls and caused five turnovers. Senior defender Paige Dredge caused a pair of turnovers as well for Albion.

The reigning MIAA Defensive Player of the Week, Alexis Robinson, was great in goal for the Britons, recording 13 saves in the win.

Albion was 16 of 21 on the clear while outshooting the Scots, 51-28. The Britons also controlled 23 draws, compared to Alma's four.

With the win, the Brits improve to 2-0 on the young season while Alma falls to 1-2.

On Wednesday, Albion will travel to Kalamazoo for a 7 p.m. matchup. The schedule is subject to change, and as always, we will keep you posted at gobrits.com.
