Box Score ALBION, Mich. -- A double-double by Amanda Larson lifted the Albion College women's basketball team to its second straight win, defeating Adrian College, 57-42. The junior scored 12 points and brought down 12 boards. All 12 points came off a perfect 4 of 4 performance from beyond the arc.
In a close contest for most of the game, the Britons outscored the visitors in the fourth quarter, 15-6.
Sophomore guard Elena Welker contributed nine points while Cierra Cole added a game-high four assists. Off the bench, Nicole Sweetland drained a pair of clutch threes down the stretch to secure the victory.
Out of the gate slow, Adrian held a slim 8-3 lead early in the first quarter. The Britons were sloppy defensively, fouling the Bulldogs and allowing the visitors to be in the bonus early in the period. A late triple by Larson off a feed from Rebecca Ross gave the hosts a 16-12 lead after one.
Albion would build its lead to as many as 12 points, thanks to another trey by Larson. The Bulldogs used a small run to cut into the lead, as Albion held a 29-24 lead at halftime.
Following another close quarter, the Britons held just a six point lead after the third.
Enter Sweetland.
Playing just the fourth quarter, Sweetland buried a 3-pointer to push Albion's lead back to nine points. Two possessions later, the sophomore connected from deep a second time to give Albion a 50-38 lead with five minutes remaining.
The lead would be enough for Albion, picking up their second win in as many games. The Britons improve to 2-2 while the Bulldogs slip to 3-7. Due to the unconventional 2021 schedule, this game does not apply towards conference standings.
Both teams were dismal from the line. Albion converted on just 47 percent of its free throws while Adrian connected on 63 percent.
The Britons will travel to No. 5 Trine University on Saturday afternoon, Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
