Box Score ALBION -- Balanced scoring, good defense and a tournament win.
In the MIAA Quarterfinals, the No. 3 seeded Albion College women's basketball team defeated No. 6 Adrian College, 63-47, on Monday evening. 10 of the 15 Britons who entered the game registered a point in the win.
The charge was led by sophomore Rebecca Ross, who scored a team-high 12 points and brought down four rebounds while recording two steals. Freshman Daniah Beavers finished just shy of a double-double, scoring 10 points and hauling in nine rebounds.
Junior transfer Cierra Cole turned in a solid performance, scoring eight points, grabbing three steals and blocking two shots. Da'Leshia Davis led all players with four steals.
It was a sluggish start for both teams, playing to a 12-12 tie after one quarter.
Albion answered by rattling off an 11-1 run to open the second quarter. A layup by Beavers, a triple from Davis and a pair of Rain Hinton free throws helped the Brits take a double digit lead.
With 1:19 remaining in the first half, a Cole steal led to a layup by Hinton at the other end, pushing the Brits ahead to 30-15. Albion would take a 30-17 lead into the half.
Despite the Bulldogs cutting the lead to 10 points, Albion scored nine straight to increase the lead back to 19 and hold a commanding lead.
The Bulldogs connected on just one of 3-pointer attempts. Albion sank seven of its threes in the win.
Led by Beavers, the Britons won the battle on the glass, 51-38. Both Davis and Elena Welker dished out three assists.
On Wednesday, the Britons will play the No. 2 seed, Trine, on the road. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
