Box Score 2 ALBION -- It was a tough day on the diamond for the Albion College baseball team, dropping a doubleheader to Hope College. The Britons were shutout in game one before a game two lead slipped away. Hope took game one, 2-0, and then the nightcap, 17-7.
GAME ONE: Hope 2 Albion 0
The Britons could only muster two hits in the loss -- both coming from sophomore Mark Lauro.
Both Flying Dutchmen runs came in the top of the second inning. After a walk, a single and two stolen bases, Hope had two runners in scoring position with one out. The first Hope run crossed on a passed ball. After a strikeout, Hope pushed another run across on an Albion error.
Albion had chances, leaving two runners on base in three innings, including the seventh.
Kevin Korte (0-2) took the loss on the bump.
GAME TWO: Hope 17 Albion 7
Albion got on the board first when freshman Braeden Emery recorded his first collegiate hit and RBI. With two out, Andrew Arszulowicz drew a walk and Ben Coble singled. Emery laced a triple to center, plating both runners and putting Albion ahead, 2-0.
Hope immediately answered with a three-run third, capitalizing on two Briton errors in the frame.
Albion struck for five in the home half of the fourth. With the bases loaded and on out, Patrick Merolla walked to force home Arszulowicz. Junior Sean Haddlesey knocked a two bagger to right, driving in Emery and Coble for a 5-3 Albion lead.
With two away, Drew Olszewski stole second, allowing Haddlesey to score on the play. Kellan Huang reached via error, scoring Olszewski and putting the Britons ahead, 7-3.
The lead was short-lived, as Hope put an 8-spot on the board in the fifth. The big frame would crush any Albion momentum, securing the Hope win.
Haddlesey, Olszewski, Emery and Justin Charron each had two hits in the loss.
Albion is back on the field tomorrow at Trine University for a non conference twinbill. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
