Box Score ALBION -- A four goal swing to end the third quarter helped the Albion College men's lacrosse team remain perfect in a 15-13 win over Transylvania University. The Britons battled to a come from behind victory, despite being outshot in the contest.
Junior Jace Conley scored six goals -- including the tying goal in the third quarter -- and dished out a pair of assists. Ethan Rottell contributed two goals and two assists. Grant Chaffee and Sam Puzevic each scored twice for the Brits.
The Pioneers broke out to an early 3-0 lead just five minutes into the game. Conley briefly silenced the visitors with a goal off a feed from Rottell. The teams would trade goals for the remainder of the first quarter, as Transy held a 5-3 advantage after one.
Following an early Pioneer goal, Timmy Salinas found Rottell for the freshman's fourth goal of the year. Transy tacked on another score before Conley and Eddie Symons brought the Britons to within one. Unable to find the equalizer in the first half, the Brits trailed 7-6 at the break.
A goal from Transylvania put the visitors up by two early in the third quarter. Conley and Puzevic -- the team's leading scorers -- each found the back of the net to tie the game at eight. One minute later, the visitors regained a 9-8 advantage.
Albion scored four goals in the final eight minutes of the quarter to hold a 12-9 lead heading into the final 15 minutes. Bo Taylor scooped up a ground ball off a face off and found Conley, who knotted the game at nine. With just under six minutes remaining in the period, Conley found Puzevic for the sophomore's second goal of the game and giving Albion its first lead of the day.
A high bouncer from Eric Fraeyman inflated the Albion lead to 11-9, and Conley worked through two defenders to give the Brits a 12-9 lead.
Chaffee's second goal of the day pushed the Britons to a four goal lead. Transylvania went on a 3-0 run over the next 80 seconds, cutting the Albion lead to one with 10 minutes to play.
Brock Yabs capitalized on a man up opportunity, putting the hosts back up by two. Just 30 seconds later, the Pioneers once again cut into the Albion lead, trimming the deficit to one.
Conley tallied an unassisted insurance goal with 6:22 on the clock.
The Britons held Transylvania to go goalless on man up opportunities (0 for 4).
Albion remains perfect with a 4-0 record. Junior goalie Jack Gogonis (4-0) totaled 19 saves in the win.
With six goals on Saturday, Conley leads the MIAA with 22. Puzevic is currently tied for second with 20. Conley's 32 points is also tops in the conference.
Albion will host another tough opponent on Tuesday evening, when they play Hope College. First face off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
