OLIVET, Mich. -- In their first outdoor meet of the season, the Albion College track and field teams had good showings at the Olivet Comet Invitational. With 131 points, the women took home second place as the men were narrowly third with 144 points.
Nayaisha Edmond won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.21. She also took third in the 100 meter dash, clocking in at 13.87.
Lauren McDowell won the 200 meter dash, coming in at 27.55. She also placed second in the long jump at 5.34 meters, just barely missing the top spot.
Sophomore Becca Ross's time of 1:05.22 gave her a second place finish in the 400 meter dash. She was sixth in the 200 meter dash as well (29.46).
Samantha Bieth was second in the 1500 meter run, clocking in at 5:04.84. Eryn Lewis finished sixth, coming in at 5:34.92.
Junior Anna Albaugh had a solid performance for the Briton throwers. She took second in the discus (35.52m), second in the hammer throw (42.21m) and seventh in the shot put (10.00m).
Sylvia Upthegrove added a sixth place finish in the weight throw with a throw of 36.23 meters. In the same event, Hollie Ballentine was eighth (35.14m).
In the triple jump, Ashley Dubois took second place with a jump of 9.93 meters. Laura Tuttle's jump of 9.44 meters was good for sixth in the event.
Jordan Revenaugh finished fourth in the 3000 meter run. The senior finished with a time of 10:52.36. Peyton Brooke took sixth in the same event with a time of 11:40.95.
Elena Welker finished fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.45 meters. She was also seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.52.
In the 400 meter hurdles, Tuttle won the event (1:15.21) as Welker was just behind her in second (1:15.32).
Sarah Stone finished fifth in the 100 meter dash, crossing the line at 14.29.
In the 100 meter hurdles, Hannah Almhiemid took eighth with a time of 17.76.
The MIAA Indoor Champion continued his reign outdoors, as Marcus Freeman won the triple jump (13.52m).
The Britons also had good performances from their throwers on the men's side. Xavier Aikens, a senior, won the hammer throw with a throw of 45.56 meters. Continuing his reign in the shot put, Kejuan Frazier won the event with a throw of 15.93 meters. Derrelle Murray was third in the event (13.43m). Mason Darden was second (44.46m). Aikens, Frazier and Murray went 2-3-4 in the discus. Jonas Manning added a sixth place finish in the hammer throw.
In the javelin, William Campbell's throw of 38.90 meters was good for a third place finish.
With a jump of 6.31 meters, DaMario Chapman finished second in the long jump.
In the 100 meter dash, Jeffrey Davis took second, coming in at 11.28. Chapman was fifth in the event with a time of 11.37 and Ronnie Puczkowski was eighth.
Junior Nathaniel Jennings placed third in the 1500 meter run, clocking in at 4:16.41.
The Britons saw two finish in the top four in the high jump. Trevor Knowles (1.90m) took third while Armund Gordon Jr. (1.80m) was fourth. Knowles added a third place finish in the long jump as well (6.15m).
Chapman, Gordon Jr. and Davis all placed in the top eight in the 200 meter dash. Chapman finished second, Gordon Jr. was third and Davis took fifth.
Jayden VanMaurick's time of 9:41.98 was good for a fourth place finish in the 3000 meter run. Paul Sutton added a sixth place finish and Tyler White was seventh in the event.
Albion will be back in action on Apr. 9 when they host a conference meet. Throwing events will begin at 12 p.m. with the running events set to begin at 4 p.m.
