ALLENDALE, Mich. — Cooper Bright and the 4x100m relay squad broke program records at GVSU's Last Chance Meet on Mother's Day.
Bright notched the record in the 200m by running the race in 21.14 seconds and placing first, breaking DaMario Chapman's mark of 21.31 from 2024. This was the MIAA Most Valuable Track Athlete's second record broken this outdoor season, as he notched the 100m program record in April.
Bright was also on the record-breaking 4x100m relay quartet also consisting of
Myles Hancock,
Josiah Graddick and
Wyatt Putney. They placed fifth among the competition with a mark of 41.09, besting the previous record of 41.20 set in 2024.
In the 100m, Hancock was fifth (11.12) and Bright was third in the prelims (10.86).
Putney ran a 22.49 for 10
th place in the 200m, while
Oghenefejiro Nakireru placed 14
th (24.20). Nakireru was also runner-up in the 400m (52.51).
Logan Vining took seventh in the 800m (1:56.09), and
James Grey was fourth in the triple jump (13.64m) to round out the Albion competitors.
Nine Britons on the women's side also competed at the competition.
Mia Czarnowski took sixth in the 100m (12.83) and fifth in the long jump (5.17m).
Albion went 1-2-3-4 in the 400m led by
Malea Wourman (1:01.02),
Sarah Kozal (1:01.49),
Lauren Fenstermaker (1:02.66) and
Adalyn Mata (1:05.01).
In the 400m hurdles,
Caragh Dwyer took eighth (1:05.58) while
Brianna Bennett placed ninth (1:09.81).
Leilani Casteele's 39.68m mark in the hammer throw was good for fifth, while
Alexis Ames took runner-up in the javelin (34.39m). It was the fifth-furthest throw in Albion history and best since Anna Albaugh's 35.77m heave in 2022.
