ADRIAN, Mich. -- Unable to capitalize in key moments, the Albion College baseball team suffered a sweep at the hands of Adrian College. The Britons left the tying run at third in the opener, dropping the first game 4-3, before falling 8-5 in game two.

GAME ONE: Adrian 4 Albion 3

After Adrian broke out to a 1-0 lead, the Britons tied the score in the top of the second. Matt McGann led off the inning with a walk and moved to third on a Justin Charron single. Zac Gray grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing McGann to cross and knotting the game at one.

The Bulldogs answered in the home half of the frame, striking for a pair of runs and taking a 3-1 lead.

McGann kept swinging a hot bat and roped a one out single to center in the fourth. Charron walked, putting two runners on. Two wild pitches allowed the runners to advance 90 feet and McGann scored on the second, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

Adrian built their lead back to two runs with a run in the sixth.

With three outs to play with, the Brits had their chances in the seventh. Andrew Arszulowicz drew a one out walk before being lifted for a pinch runner. Following a double by Dylan Perry and Mark Lauro being plunked, the Brits had bases loaded with one out.

Sean Haddlesey rolled a ball over to short, looking to be a game-ending double play. The Adrian first baseman pulled his foot, allowing David Asmar to score and keep the inning alive. Adrian got the next hitter to strikeout, stranding the tying run 90 feet away.

Braeden Emery (1-1) took the loss on the bump, throwing six innings, allowing seven hits while striking out four.

Albion recorded just four hits in the game and struck out 13 times.

GAME TWO: Adrian 8 Albion 5

The Bulldogs plated two runs in the first before the Britons rallied for five runs in the top of the second.

McGann was hit by a pitch and Arszulowicz walked, putting two runners aboard for Perry. The senior delivered a double to left, driving in McGann for the first Albion run of the game. Patrick Merolla followed with an RBI single to score Arszulowicz.

With one away, Drew Olszewski lifted a sac fly to right, driving in Perry. The final two Albion runs came via a Lauro single.

Adrian answered with three runs in the home half of the frame, knotting the game at five.

One run in the fifth and two insurance runs in the sixth was enough to put the Britons out of reach.

The Britons fall to 7-11 overall, 3-5 in the MIAA.

Albion will travel to Calvin for a non-conference single game on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
