ALMA, Mich. -- The Albion College men's and women's track and field teams each took home third place at the MIAA Championships, which concluded on Friday afternoon. The men's side scored 110.5 points while the women's team earned 119.
Four individuals earned MIAA titles. Senior Kejuan Frazier kept his crown in the shot put, winning on Thursday, before turning around and winning the discus on Friday. Marcus Freeman remains undefeated in both indoor and outdoor in the triple jump, with a jump of 14.26 meters. Freshman Avery Campbell won the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.85, edging out her opponent by .03 seconds.
Behind Freeman in the triple jump were Trevor Knowles and Armund Gordon Jr., who took second and third in the event.
Elena Welker had herself a weekend at the Championships. The sophomore places third in the high jump, fourth in the triple jump, sixth in the 100 meter hurdles, seventh in the long jump and eighth in javelin.
Behind Frazier in the discus was James Mida, who took home third place with a throw of 39.62 meters. Derrelle Murray also scored in the event, taking home eighth. Murray won fourth in the shot put on Thursday as well.
In the 10000 meter run, Megan McCulloch took second with a time of 38:20.08. She finished fourth in the 5000 meter run as well for Albion.
Both the men's and women's 4x100 meter relay teams finished third. The men's squad of DaMario Chapman, Gordon Jr., Knowles and Jeffrey Davis clocked in at 42.53. The women's team of Layla Wilks, Lauren McDowell, Becca Ross and Campbell finished with a time of 50.68.
Ashley Dubois continued her stellar season by taking second in the triple jump with a jump of 10.41 meters.
Junior Anna Albaugh set a school record while taking third in the hammer throw, with a throw of 46.37 meters. Albaugh took home a fourth place finish in the discus as well. Sylvia Upthegrove was seventh in the hammer throw for the Britons.
In the men's hammer throw, Mason Darden placed second while Xavier Aikens finished seventh.
McDowell added a sixth place finish in the long jump and a second place finish in the 400 meter dash. Ross was behind her in the 400 meter dash, securing fifth place.
Laura Tuttle was sixth in the long jump.
Nathaniel Jennings placed fifth in the 1500 meter run and eighth in the 800 meter run.
Three Britons scored in the long jump -- Gordon Jr., Knowles and Chapman were 4-5-6 in the event. Additionally, Knowles added a sixth place finish in the high jump and Gordon Jr. was behind him in seventh.
Samantha Bieth took home fourth place in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Tuttle and Colette Askins went 4-5 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Chapman and Gordon Jr. were fourth and sixth in the 200 meter dash. On the women's side, Campbell took fourth and McDowell was eighth. Chapman also finished fourth in the 100 meter dash.
Senior Hannah Almhiemid was third in the 100 meter hurdles.
The women's 4x400 meter relay team was third, made up of Campbell, Ross, Tuttle and McDowell. On the men's side, Chapman, Gordon Jr., Jennings and Davis placed fifth.
A number of individuals will compete at a last chance meet in the coming weeks in hopes to secure a spot at Nationals.
