Dominant fourth quarter lifts women's hoops

Box Score FRANKLIN, Ind. – Backed by 17 points from Lolo Reed, the Albion College women's basketball team used a monstrous fourth quarter to defeat Franklin College, 72-58. With the win, the Britons improved to 4-1 overall on the young season.

Reed led all scorers with 17 points, as she racked up nine rebounds. Elena Welker, Daniah Beavers and Riley Davis all scored in double digits for the visitors. Welker and Beavers scored 14 as Davis tallied 10.

Reed dished out four assists as well.

After Franklin held a slim lead after one, the Britons bounced back to hold a 36-29 advantage at the half. A pair of Audrey DeWaters free throws and a bucket by Elena Welker boosted the lead to seven points in the second quarter.

Franklin battled back, cutting the Albion lead to 40-38 midway through the third quarter. Reed was able to stop the bleeding by getting to the free throw line and sinking a pair. Welker tacked on to the Briton lead with a jumper two possessions later.

Through three, it was the Britons leading the charge, hanging on to a 47-42 lead.

Out of the quarter break, the Britons went on a 14-2 run to build a sizable advantage. The run was capped off by a gorgeous and-one by Welker. Albion would inflate the lead to as many as 22 points, maintaining total control of the game.

Off the bench, sophomore post Emma Cooke contributed six rebounds.

Despite only hitting one three, the Brits held the edge in the rebounding game, 47-40.

Albion will be idle until next Wednesday when they kick off MIAA action. The Brits will host St. Mary's at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.
