Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Brits bounce Bulldogs for longest win streak since 2011-12

Albion wins its ninth straight contest.

ALBION – Despite clinging to a single digit lead at the half, the Albion College women's basketball team used a marvelous second half to pull away from Adrian College, 73-51. The Britons have extended their win streak to nine, the longest since an 11-game span in the 2011-12 season (Dec. 10-Jan. 21).

Reigning MIAA Athlete of the Week, Daniah Beavers, scored 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in under 20 minutes of work. The junior also blocked a pair of shots in the win.

DeBraya Edwards tied a season-high with 12 points and seven rebounds coming off the bench. Both Elena Welker (11) and Lolo Reed (10) scored in double figures for Albion. Welker added six assists, averaging 4.1 per game, ranking second in the MIAA. Reed brought down seven rebounds as well.

Adrian (3-6, 0-3) hung with the Britons for the entirety of the first half. Albion got into foul trouble and the Bulldogs' mid-range game was working, keeping the Albion lead to a slim margin. At halftime, the Brits were leading by just six points (34-28).

Out of the half, Albion used a 14-6 third quarter to build distance from the visitors. With 2:13 to play in the third, Welker found Becca Ross who nailed a 3-pointer, giving the Britons a 10 point lead. After a stop at the other end, a hustle play by Ross kept possession with the Britons, leading to a bucket and a 12-point lead. From there, Albion remained in total control to cruise to their third conference victory.

Capitalizing on Adrian's mistake, Albion scored 25 points off turnovers. The hosts also dominated the inside game, outsourcing the Bulldogs by 20 points in the paint.

Albion is now averaging 25 points per game better than their opponents, scoring just over 79 points per game.

The Britons improve to 9-1 overall, 3-0 in the MIAA.

On Monday, the Brits host Spring Arbor for the final game before the holiday break. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
