Spring Arbor sinks women's basketball

ALBION – A poor shooting night and a halftime deficit resulted in the Albion College women's basketball team falling to Spring Arbor University, 60-54. The loss snaps Albion's nine game win streak, moving to 9-2 overall on the season. 

Despite the loss, four Britons finished in double figures. Senior guard Elena Welker led the attack with 12 points, as Cierra Cole added 11 with four assists. Both Lolo Reed and Riley Davis scored 10 points apiece. 

After one, the Cougars led 18-11 following a slow start by the hosts. Unable to tie or take the lead before the break, SAU led 28-21 at halftime. 

Albion chipped away at the Cougar lead throughout the third quarter, eventually pulling ahead, 31-30. Down the stretch, Spring Arbor made big threes, as the visitors connected on 37.5 percent of its long balls. 

Typically dominant on the boards, the Britons allowed 23 offensive rebounds, leading to 18 Cougar points. At their own end, Albion collected just 12 offensive rebounds, well below their season average. 

The Brits will be off until Dec. 28 when they head out to the west coast. Albion will take on the University of Redlands at Chapman University in Orange, California.
