Late run sinks women's basketball

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – For 35 minutes, it was a tight knit contest. 

A slip up in the final five minutes leading to a 6-0 Calvin run cost the Albion College women's basketball team on Wednesday, falling to the Knights, 69-57.

Daniah Beavers led the Brits with 14 points and logged a game-best 14 rebounds. The junior had seven boards at each end of the floor. 

Both Cierra Cole and Lolo Reed finished with 11 points, as Elena Welker chipped in with 10. 

Deadlocked at 12 after a low-scoring first quarter, the Britons could not get any offensive rhythm, but were able to disrupt the Knights from theirs. Calvin took a slim lead into halftime, building to a 27-22 advantage. 

In the third, it was a back and forth period that set up for an exciting finish. A late basket from the Knights knotted the score at 45. 

All tied up heading into the final period, the hosts went on a 6-0 run with five minutes left that proved to be too much for the Brits to overcome. 

Albion slips to 9-3 overall, 4-1 in the MIAA. 

After missing their California trip due to travel issues, the Brits have picked up a game this Saturday at Bluffton. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
