Western takes Reserve High Point Team twice

ALBION – With a pair of Reserve High Point Team finishes, the Albion College western equestrian team continued its terrific season on Saturday. The doubleheader wrapped up the 2022 portion of the schedule. 

Winning Reserve High Point Team honors in the morning show, the Brits were led by a first place finish from Ella Farwell in Rookie B Horsemanship.

In Level I Horsemanship, Anna Divis won her section as Jenna Smith placed third. In the other section, Madison Weedon won for the Brits. Albion saw a pair place in open reining – Aria Morgan and Marty Cash went 2-3.

Carli Kerns took second place in Level II Ranch Riding, as senior Robert Warwick was just behind her in third. 

Albion saw two riders place in beginner horsemanship. Janaya McKinney finished second, as Katelyn Proshek was third in the event. Karragen Roe (third) and Miley Phillips (fifth) placed for Albion in Level II Horsemanship. 

Rounding out the morning show, Cash and Warwick placed in open horsemanship. The two finished fourth and sixth overall. 

Warwick highlighted the afternoon show by winning High Point Rider honors. As a team, the Britons were the Reserve High Point Team. He finished first in Level II Ranch Riding and later went on to win open horsemanship. 

Also placing in open horsemanship were Cash (third), Morgan (fourth) and Kerns (sixth). 

Between the two sections, Albion went 1-2-3 in Level I Horsemanship. Madison Weedon won her section, as Divis and Amelia Otten placed second and third in their section. 

In beginner horsemanship, Proshek and McKinney finished second and fourth, respectively. 

Albion got a fourth and fifth place finish from Aubrey Kruske and Miley Phillips in Level II Horsemanship.

Farwell was third in Rookie B Horsemanship, as Kerns was fourth in Level II Ranch Riding. To start the show, Morgan was third in open reining. 

The team is idle through the holiday break. The western team will be back in action on Jan. 29 at Michigan State.
