Women second, men fourth at MIAAs

ALBION – An incredible ending to the women's 4x4, seven MIAA Champions and a school record highlighted day two of the MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The women narrowly took second, scoring 171 points, while the men finished fourth with 92 points. 

Avery Campbell stole the show, winning four events on the day. The sophomore erased a 25+ meter deficit in the last leg of the 4x400 relay, taking the Brits from third to first in the final 100 meters. She along with Lauren McDowell, Becca Ross and Ashley Dubois won and set a new Albion record with a time of 4:03.65. 

Campbell continued her dominance in sprints, winning the 100 meter (12.49) and 200 meter (25.33) dashes. She also ran the final leg of the championship 4x1 team, composed of McDowell, Nayaisha Edmond and Layla Wilks

McDowell also scored for the Britons in the 100 meter dash, taking fourth and placing fifth in the 200 meter dash. Wilks finished second behind Campbell in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.74, while finishing seventh in the 200.

Senior Anna Albaugh won both events she competed in on Friday – the discus and javelin. She won the discus with a throw of 38.58 meters before going on to win the javelin with a throw of 35.77 meters. 

Trevor Knowles won the triple jump a day after winning the long jump with a mark of 13.56 meters. He was one of five Brits who scored in the event. On the men's side, Chuckie King joined Knowles on the podium after placing sixth. On the women's side, Dubois (third), Elena Welker (fourth) and Ross (seventh) all scored. 

Samantha Bieth's time of 11:12.91 earned the junior second in the steeplechase. 

James Mida took second in the discus with a throw of 39.35 meters. In fourth was Derrelle Murray and Connor Dewan placed eighth. On the women's side, senior Sylvia Upthegrove was seventh. 

In the women's 100 meter hurdles, Edmond placed second while Welker took fifth. Edmond also scored in the 400 meter hurdles, taking fifth. Welker also found herself on the podium in the javelin, taking eighth, as freshman Felicia Choate placed fifth. 

Junior Megan McCulloch was fourth in the 5000 meter run, clocking in at 17:53.64.

The men's 4x100 relay team of Ronnie Puczkowski, Jeffrey Davis, Knowles and DaMario Chapman finished fourth with a time of 43.01. Knowles added a fourth place finish in the high jump as well.

KingDavid Adedapo was fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.80.

Nathaniel Jennings had a fantastic finish to score in the 1500 meter run, placing eighth with a time of 4:09.55. He was also eighth in the 800 and on the 4x4 team that took fifth. The 4x4 team was composed of Jennings, King, Ed Brown and Adedapo.

Jeffrey Davis finished eighth in the 100 and 100 meter dashes. 

Select Britons will continue competing in last chance meets to boost their marks and potentially earn a spot at Nationals. The 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Geneva, Ohio, just east of Cleveland.
