GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a 4-2 weekend at the Blithe Duals, the Albion College men's wrestling team placed fourth in the event. Junior Owen McDaniel led the way going 4-0 overall on the weekend. All four of McDaniel's wins came with bonus points, as he recorded two major decisions and a pair of tech falls.

Adding three falls and a 5-1 record was fellow co-captain Max Honiss.

MATCH ONE: Albion 42 Siena Heights 7

Dropping just two matches in the dual, the Britons earned extra points in seven of their eight wins. Winning the last five matches of the dual, Peyton Brooks pinned his opponent in just 38 seconds at 165. Rounding out the competition, Jack Smith, Owen McDaniel and CJ Krum all won via tech falls, as Bode Brown also earned a pin at 197.

MATCH TWO: Albion 33 Cornerstone 14

Going up against host institution Cornerstone, Austin Matheney and Max Honiss got the Britons back on track after falling behind, 11-0. The Brits rallied to once again win the final five bouts – all coming with bonus points. Krum (6:34) and Brooks (0:11) pinned their opponents, as Smith, McDaniel and Demond Harrison all won by major decisions.

QUARTERFINALS: Albion 29 Northwestern College 13

Jeremy Sarter's win at 133 ignited a run that saw Albion win six straight bouts. Honiss worked his way to a pin at 149, as Matheney, Brooks and Smith all won via major decisions. At 157, freshman Justin Gorman picked up a resounding 18-3 tech fall victory.

SEMIFINALS: Grand Valley State 25 Albion 24

Starting off Saturday morning in the Semifinals, the Britons narrowly missed out at a quality comeback. Trailing 25-12 heading into the final three bouts, a win was not out of the question for Albion, as three of the team's strongest wrestlers were on the docket. McDaniel won via tech fall and Harrison gritted out a sudden victory win. At heavyweight, Krum earned a major decision win, but the team ultimately fell a point short.

WRESTLEBACK SEMIFINALS: Albion 33 Liberty 15

Cade Odrobina started the Brits off on the right foot by earning a win in the opening matchup. Despite Liberty winning the next bout, Matheney answered back with a tech fall and Honiss won by a 12-4 major decision. Brooks (4:08) and Smith (1:06) had back to back pins at 165 and 174 before McDaniel earned yet another victory at 184.

THIRD PLACE MATCH: Wisconsin-Eau Claire 38 Albion 6

A powerhouse Blugold team made quick work of the Britons, finishing off the weekend with a 4-2 overall record.

The Britons return to the mats at the North Central Invitational on Dec. 9.
