Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's hoops wins fourth straight

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Winners of four straight, the Albion College women's basketball team made quick work of St. Mary's College, defeating the Belles, 80-42. Daniah Beavers continued her incredible season with another double-double, scoring 16 points and bringing down 12 rebounds – eight on the offensive end.

Senior Elena Welker scored 14 points in the win for Albion. Lolo Reed finished with 13 points and added four assists.

The Brits improve to 16-7 overall, 10-4 in the MIAA with a pair of conference games to play.

After one quarter, the Britons had a 20-13 lead. In the second, the visitors went on a tear to outscore the Belles 23-6 in the period. The lead grew thanks to an 18-0 run to start the second quarter by the Brits.

Two buckets from Reed were followed by a jumper from Beavers. Welker – who went 2-2 from three – knocked down a long ball to give Albion a 17 point advantage. Beavers scored four more points before Angelina Mendieta connected from deep. The senior finished with eight points off the bench.

Leading 43-19 at the half, the Britons had built a large enough lead to be in control for the rest of the matchup.

All of the players who checked in for Albion recorded at least one point or one assist in the win.

The Brits turned the ball over just nine times, compared to 20 turnovers committed by St. Mary's. The 20 turnovers led to 22 Briton points.

Albion scored 44 points in the paint compared to 14 by the Belles.

On Wednesday, the Brits head to Alma College for the last regular season road game. Tip off in Alma will be at 7:30 p.m.
