WBB comes up short in regular season finale


ALBION – A hard fought battle went the wrong way, as the Albion College women's basketball team fell in its regular season finale, 71-65, to Calvin University. Albion saw four players score in double figures, but could not prevail against a tough Knights squad. 

Daniah Beavers led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds while blocking two shots. Lolo Reed finished with 14 points as Riley Davis added 12 with eight boards. Becca Ross tallied 10 points off the bench in the loss. 

Fifth year Cierra Cole tacked on five rebounds and four assists. 

Calvin held a 22-15 edge after one period, getting ahead early on and holding onto the lead. The Britons worked to cut into the lead, but the Knights were still up at the lead, 31-28. 

In the third quarter, the Knights got clutch baskets and some big 3-pointers to regain a large lead. Despite Albion having good looks in the fourth quarter, the hosts could not capitalize and pull off the win. 

With the loss, Albion slides to the No. 4 seed for next week's MIAA Tournament. On Tuesday, Albion will host Alma for a 7 p.m. tip off.
