Hunt Seat sends six to Regionals

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – Six riders across eight different events have qualified for Regionals at the conclusion of the final weekend for the Albion College Hunt Seat Equestrian Team.

Phoebe Martin, Hannah DesRochers, Grace Szmania, Sara Vander Kooi, Emily Brooks and Mattison Coburn all qualified for Regionals over the weekend. Martin qualified in Open Fences and Open Flat, while Szmania qualified in both Limit Flat and Limit Fences.

Also qualifying in Limit Flat was Vander Kooi. DesRoches qualified in Intermediate Fences for the Britons. To round out the team, Coburn qualified in Novice and Brooks qualified in Intro.

In Saturday's show, the Britons placed third. Martin started off the day with a second place finish in Open Flat, and was followed by DesRochers's fifth place showing in Open Fences.

In Intermediate Flat, Albion saw three riders place – DesRochers (third), Szmania (fourth) and Emily Martinez (sixth). Martinez later took fourth in Intermediate Fences.

Sophomore Katherine Dudenhoefer won Limit Flat, as senior Emilly Ashworth was just behind her in second. Vander Kooi was fifth in the event. Dudenhoefer and Szmania both competed in Limit Fences, taking second and third, respectively.

Lucia Scouten finished third in Novice, while Brooks was fourth in Introductory.

Martin kicked off Sunday's show with a first place showing in Open Flat. She later was third in Open Fences, while DesRochers was fifth in the same event. DesRochers and Szmania went 3-4 in Intermediate Flat.

In Limit Fences, VanderKooi was second, as Ashworth and Szmania both placed in the event. Katie Woerner won Limit Flat in Sunday's show, as Ashworth and Coburn were fifth and sixth.

Scouten placed sixth in novice, as Brooks rounded out the weekend with a second place finish in Introductory.

As a team, the Britons placed second on Sunday.

On Mar. 11, the riders that qualified for Regionals will compete at the University of Findlay.
