WBB rolls to victory at home

ALBION – The Albion College women's basketball team continued its winning ways, knocking off Kalamazoo College, 70-41. Junior post Daniah Beavers turned in another double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds – six on the offensive end. 

Becca Ross contributed 12 points as well, while Angelina Mendieta scored a season-best 10 in the win. Lolo Reed dished out a game-high six assists in the victory. 

Albion opened the game on a 12-0 run and never looked back, leading 18-4 after one period. Back to back triples from Ross and Mendieta gave the Britons the early advantage before Mendieta followed with a bucket. Layups by Elena Welker and Olivia Dameron capped off the early run, but the hosts had a sizable advantage in the first period. 

The Britons continued to hold a double-digit lead over the Hornets, taking a 26-14 lead into halftime.

With 4:19 remaining in the third quarter, Albion stretched its lead to 20 points to have full control for the remainder of the game. 

Albion scored 20 points off 25 Kalamazoo turnovers. Led by Beavers inside, the Brits scored 40 points in the paint compared to just 16 from the Hornets. Beavers was also a force defensively, blocking four shots. 

After a devastating performance at the foul line on Wednesday, the Brits responded to connect on 80 percent of its free throws in the win. 

The Britons will host Defiance College on Monday in a makeup game from their California trip. Game time against the Yellow Jackets is set for 7:30 p.m.
