Martin qualifies for Regionals, Hunt Seat shows at Findlay

FINDLAY, Ohio – Being the only Division III team at the show, the Albion College Hunt Seat Equestrian team had two finishes in the top three this weekend at Findlay.

On Saturday, Phoebe Martin qualified for Regionals in both Open Fences and Open Flat. The freshman won the Open Fences event and placed third in Open Flat.

Also placing in Open Fences for the Brits was senior Hannah DesRochers who took third.

In Limit Fences, Albion saw three riders place. Emilly Ashwoth led the way with a third place finish, while Katherine Dudenhoefer was fifth and Katie Woerner took sixth.

Albion continued its good showings in Limit Flat, where four Britons finished in the top six. Senior Grace Szmania was third, while classmate Sarah Vander Kooi was just behind in fourth place. Ashworth and Dudenhoefer placed as well for Albion.

Rounding out the show, sophomore Emily Brooks was second in Introductory.

As a team, the Brits took third in Saturday's show.

The Britons were back in the arena Sunday where they tied for Reserve Champion with Lake Erie College.

Martin was back at it with a second place finish in Open Fences followed by a fifth place showing in Open Flat.

In Limit Fences, Woerner led the way with a third place finish. Joining her in placing were Dudenhoefer (fifth) and Vander Kooi (sixth).

Both DesRochers and Emily Martinez placed in Intermediate Flat.

Albion had three riders place in Limit Flat 00 Ashworth, Vander Kooi and Woerner.

Freshman Lucia Scouten finished second in Novice Equitation. Ending the day was another second place finish by Brooks in Introductory.

The hunt seat team will compete in their final regular season shows at Lake Erie College, Feb. 18-19.
