Men's wrestling dominates Olivet

ALBION – Back in Kresge, the Albion College men's wrestling team left no doubt, earning a 29-7 win over The University of Olivet. The Britons won eight of the 10 bouts, improving to 1-1 in MIAA action this season.

2023 National Qualifier Cade Odrobina started off the match with a 6-2 victory in the 125 bout over Olivet's Emmett Kettel. His win was followed by a thunderous pin from sophomore Josh Mars. After allowing three early points, Mars answered by pinning Tom Lear in just 2:05.

At 141, Austin Matheney kept the momentum in favor of Albion with an 8-2 win, his first in the league this season. The Comets took the 149 match, but Justin Gorman put together another incredible bout to gain four points for the Brits. Gorman, a freshman, earned his first MIAA win with a 13-3 major decision, seeing Albion lead 16-3 midway through the dual.

Sophomore Peyton Brooks improved to 2-0 in conference action with an 8-2 victory at 165. Junior co-captain Owen McDaniel secured the match for the hosts with a gritty 9-7 win in the 174 bout. It was later followed with an impressive 5-0 win from Garrett Iobe at 184.

The second freshman in the Albion lineup – Demond Harrison – was stellar at 197, improving to 2-0 within the league. Throughout the third period Harrison racked up points to win 16-6. The Comets won the final match, but the Britons had built a large enough lead to win the critical MIAA match.

Albion continues MIAA action on Wednesday when they pay a visit to Trine. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
