Six win titles at MIAA Indoor Championships

ANGOLA, Ind. – Backed by six champions, the Albion College indoor track and field teams competed at the MIAA Championships on Saturday afternoon. As a team, the men took third, scoring 97 points as the women were fourth.

DaMario Chapman (60m Dash), Derrelle Murray (SP), Tess Anthony (SP, WT), Avery Campbell (60m Dash), Nayaisha Alexander-Edmond (60m Hurdles) all were champions on the day. In the 60m prelims, Campbell broke her own school record with a time of 7.66 before breaking the school record in the 200m dash (25.58).

Albion swept the shot put, as Derrelle Murray won the men's event with a 16.13m mark. Just behind in second was Eddie Hines, recording a 15.91m throw. Junior Tess Anthony won the women's shot put with a throw of 12.43m. Ashley Booth's throw of 10.10m earned her an eighth place finish. 

DaMario Chapman won the 60m dash by .01, clocking in at 6.92. Will Davis placed third with a time of 6.95. On the women's side, Campbell won with a time of 7.68. Alexander-Edmond placed eighth with a time of 8.25.

The Briton women secured the top four spots in the weight throw, led by Anthony sweeping both throwing events. The junior threw a 15.62 to win the event for the second straight year. Just behind her was sophomore Leilani Casteele (14.15) taking second, as Skye Dickson was third with a 13.97. Booth was fourth, rounding out the top four with a 13.92.

Nayaisha Alexander-Edmond won the 60m hurdles for the second year in a row, running a 9.18.

In the 200m dash, Campbell was the runner-up, clocking in at 25.58. On the men's side, Davis and Chapman were seventh and eighth, respectively. 

Hines took second in the weight throw with a mark of 15.66m. Murray added points for the Brits with a seventh place finish with a 13.94m mark.

Three Britons were on the podium for the men's triple jump, led by a second place finish by Omar Gordon Jr. (13.30m). Ronnie Puczkowski (13.26m) was third and Henry Wehrly finished fifth. 

In pole vault, junior Brayden Stavros claimed fourth with a jump of 3.95m.

Serena Arnold, Sarah Kozal, Taylor Adams and Cassandra Gallagher ran a 14:11.09 to finish fifth in the women's DMR.

Albion went 5-6 in the high jump on the men's side. Henry Wehrly took fifth (1.89m) as Omar Gordon Jr. (1.83m) was behind in sixth. The duo later placed in the long jump with Wehrly (6.57m) taking sixth and Gordon Jr. (6.53m) in seventh. 

The men's DMR was seventh, made up of Connor Clark, David Chafty, Adan Rojas and Ruark Wicka (12:43.93).

Freshman Logan Vining placed sixth in the mile, running a 4:23.05.

In the 60m hurdles for the men, KingDavid Adedapo ran a 8.70, good for sixth, as Larry Reed Jr.'s 9.19 earned him eighth. 

Alexander-Edmond, Lauren Fernstermaker, Kozal and Campbell were fifth in the 4x400m relay. Ending the night, the men's 4x400m relay team took third with a time of 3:25.55, made up of Adedapo, Chapman, Josiah Graddick and Davis.

Select Brits will await their fate for the national rankings to see who has earned a trip to the DIII Indoor Track and Field Championships.
