FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Luke Schuemann and
Connor Laidlaw have picked up MIAA Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week honors.
Schuemann was the conference's Offensive Player of the Week, while Laidlaw received Specialist of the Week.
Schuemann was instrumental in the Britons' 13-12 overtime victory over Adrian last Saturday. The sophomore posted a career-high six goals, including three in the fourth quarter/overtime, and added three assists. With 32 seconds left in the extra period, Schuemann delivered the game-winning goal as well and got the Albion scoring run going as the Britons rung up the game's final five goals. Additionally, Schuemann notched three scores and an assist in the Britons' loss to Calvin earlier in the week.
Laidlaw won 14 faceoffs and secured eight ground balls in the victory over Adrian. The sophomore FOGO also recorded his first career goal against Calvin.
Schuemann has scored 32 goals on the season, which is fourth in the MIAA, and is tied for fifth in the conference with 17 assists. Laidlaw leads the MIAA in ground balls with 113 and in faceoffs won with 174.
The Britons have now won MIAA Athlete of the Week awards on six different occasions this season.
Cal Stearns has earned Offensive Player of the Week honors twice,
Herby Basil Defensive Player of the Week once and back on March 2, Laidlaw received Specialty Player of the Week as well.
Albion will head to Hope on Wednesday, April 15 for a 7 p.m. showdown with the Flying Dutch. Both teams were voted as the co-favorites in the MIAA heading into the season.
