Stearns Receives MIAA Offensive MVP Award, Five Britons Honored on All-MIAA Team

Five Britons were selected to the All-MIAA team.
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — The MIAA has announced their all-conference men's lacrosse team. This year's squad features five Britons — including MIAA Offensive MVP Cal Stearns — along with Connor Laidlaw (first team), Luke Schuemann (second team), Logan Bride (second team) and Ben Schollett (second team).

STEARNS is the fourth MIAA Offensive MVP in program history, joining Hall of Famer Alexander Dziewit (2015), Zach Hubbell (2017) and Jace Conley (2023). The senior also joins Conley as the only four-time first-team All-MIAA selections in team history.

Stearns helped lead the Britons to their 11th 10-win campaign in program history and 13th consecutive trip to the MIAA Tournament semifinals. The Midland, Mich., native moved from midfield to attack this season and produced a conference-leading 66 goals to go along with 23 assists, which tied for fifth.

This season, Stearns was named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week twice — including after his performance against Alma where he tallied a career-high nine goals and tied the program record for points in a game with 12. Earlier in the season, he picked up the weekly award after notching six goals and two assists against Otterbein when he also landed on the USILA Division III Team of the Week.

Throughout his career, Stearns has been a two-time IMLCA All-Region selection and was selected as the MIAA Rookie of the Year in 2023 while compiling 198 goals, 69 assists and 267 points.

LAIDLAW is the other Briton on the first team. The sophomore was one of the best face-off specialists in the league this season, collecting a conference-leading 153 ground balls and winning 56.6% of his face-offs — third best in the league among those who had at least 100 chances. He also won 241 face-offs, best in the MIAA, and has tallied two goals, six assists and five caused turnovers.

The Pleasant Ridge, Mich., native received the MIAA Specialist of the Week award twice this season. His first career weekly honor came on March 2 following the Britons' 17-8 victory over Wilmington in which he won 14 faceoffs, collected 12 ground balls and forced two turnovers while assisting on the first goal of the game just seconds after winning the faceoff. Laidlaw's second came after he secured eight ground balls and won 14 faceoffs in Albion's 13-12 overtime victory over Adrian in the regular season while also picking up his first career goal against Calvin the game prior.

SCHUEMANN delivered a 1-2 punch with Stearns at attack to garner second-team All-MIAA honors. The sophomore tallied 47 goals (fourth in MIAA) and 20 assists (ninth in MIAA) to total 67 points (fourth in MIAA) on the year.

The 2025 MIAA Rookie of the Year and second team selection earned MIAA Offensive Player of the Week honors twice this season. The Battle Creek, Mich., native earned his first following the Britons' overtime victory over Adrian in the regular season when he tallied six goals — including the game-winner in the extra period — and three assists while notching a hat trick against Calvin the game before. He recently earned his second weekly award this past week when he totaled a career-high eight goals in the MIAA Tournament First Round matchup vs. the Bulldogs and posted a hat trick in the regular season finale against Trine.

BRIDE received second-team All-MIAA honors despite having played in just seven games this season after coming back from an injury sustained in the fall. The senior earned second team recognition in 2024 and first team honors in 2025 while tallying five goals on six shots, three assists, 29 ground balls and seven caused turnovers on the year.

The long-stick midfielder earned his first MIAA Specialist of the Week recognition following the Britons' MIAA Tournament First Round victory over Adrian when he posted five ground balls, two caused turnovers, an assist and a goal off a faceoff that propelled Albion in the fourth quarter when they took the lead for good. Against Trine the game prior, the Waterford, Mich., native finished with an assist, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

SCHOLLETT received his second consecutive spot on the All-MIAA second team. The senior has started all 18 games on defense with 33 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers, which is tied for fourth on the team. Against undefeated Hope, the Traverse City, Mich., native collected three ground balls and caused a season-high four turnovers.

The Britons will look to earn a trip to their 13th consecutive MIAA championship game and win their seventh conference tournament title against the No. 2 seed Calvin in the MIAA semifinals on Tuesday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
