Box Score LaGRANGE, Ga. – Albion College held a 6-1 lead over LaGrange College after the second inning Tuesday, and it had the opportunity to extend the lead by loading the bases in the third and fourth innings. The Britons failed to score in both innings, and LaGrange came back to hand Albion a 10-6 setback in the third and final game of the series.
Albion had seven consecutive batters safely reach base as it erupted for six runs in the second. The Britons were helped by three walks, and Eric Shimmel delivered the big hit with a two-run single. Chuck DeClarke (Holt/Lansing Catholic Central) and Davin Montgomery (Novi/Northville) also had RBI hits in the inning.
Chase Kreger (Albion) and Adam Mazza (Macomb/Dakota) walked and Dan Mills (Northville) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out in the third, but the next two batters struck out. The bottom of the order again set the table in the fourth – Kreger and Ben Gould (Alpena) drew walks and Mills singled – but another strikeout ended the scoring threat.
LaGrange scored three runs in the third to cut the Albion lead to 6-4 and the Panthers seized the lead with a four-run fifth inning. The Panthers tacked on insurance runs in the seventh and eighth.
Chad Gromek (Lansing/Lansing Catholic Central) collected a pair of singles in the first two innings for Albion.
