BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Matt Melvin finished second out of 23 runners in the steeplechase and Mitchell Klingler and Paul Lewis finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 5,000 meters as the Albion College men's track & field team competed outdoors for the first time this spring in the Southern Invitational.
Melvin engaged Lipscomb's Ashton Fisher in a tight race. Fisher beat Melvin to the finish line by 47 hundredths of a second. Melvin's official time was 9:35.79.
Melvin added a fifth place finish in the 1,500 meters. His time was 4:11.02.
Klingler earned third place in the 5,000 when he reached the finish line in 15:08.36. Lewis' time was 15:16.35. Klingler also finished 11th in the steeplechase in what Coach Lance Coleman called a great time of 10:12.57.
Zach Cooper raced to fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles, reaching the finish line in 58.54 seconds.
