Personal Records Fall In Allendale

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Led by the distance runners, 19 personal records were set by Albion College athletes in the Al Owens Invitational.

Matt Melvin and Mitch Clinton achieved personal best in the 5,000 meters. Melvin was fourth to finish, posting one of the 10 fastest times in Albion history when he reached the finish line in 15:14.74. Clinton's time of 15:50.71 was good for 17th out of 45 athletes.

Paul Lewis became the first Albion runner to complete the 1,500 meters in less than four minutes since 2007 when he finished 13th out of 75 runners with a time of 3:59.58. Coach Lance Coleman added Lewis and Mitchell Klingler were part of a group of great performances in the 800 and 1,500 distances. Klingler completed his 1,500 race in 4:02.16. Don Strite was one of the personal-record setters in the 800, posting a time of 2:00.28.

Jimmy McKee and Justin Wilson braved below-normal temperatures to finish first and fifth, respectively, in the javelin throw. McKee's winning throw sailed nearly 163 feet.
