DELAWARE, Ohio – Albion College track & field athletes tuned up for the April 13 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree by competing in the Marv Frye Invitational at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Joshua Lowe and James McKee led Albion in the field with a runner-up finishes in their respective events. Lowe cleared the high jump bar at 6 feet, and McKee had an effort of 160' 5" in the javelin throw. Kylen Bradley took third in the triple jump (42' 3 1/4").
Mitchell Klingler and Matt Melvin turned in Albion's best individual finishes on the track as they took third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run. Klingler completed his run in 4:03.11 while Melvin was two seconds behind.
Klingler added a third-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a personal record time of 15:06.16 that Coach Lance Coleman said is one of the 10 fastest times in school history. Paul Lewis was fourth in the race, reaching the finish line in 15:11.05.
Zach Cooper achieved fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.33 seconds. Mitch Clinton also earned a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters (15:57.28).
Coleman also noted Don Strite achieved a season-best performance while finishing 14th in the 800 meters (2:02.48). Justin Meredith achieved personal records in the 100 (11.26 seconds) and 200 (22.97 seconds). Nick Bertoia (400 meters), Koumei Tsunoda (100 & 200) and Alex Goricki (110 hurdles, 400 hurdles, triple jump) competed well. In the throws Justin Wilson had a huge break through in the javelin with a throw of 141' 5".
Olivet College is the host institution for the MIAA Jamboree.
