HIRAM, Ohio – Oreyana Curry and Darian Payne each produced a pair of baskets as Albion College ripped off a 16-0 run in the first half and it coasted to a 74-60 victory over Hiram College on the first night of the Victory Promotions Terrier Tip-Off Classic.

Erin Nelson scored on the first two possessions and Albion never trailed in the game, though Hiram forged ties twice in the early going.

Albion was clinging to a 15-12 lead midway through the first half when it delivered the knockout punch. Tori Henning ignited the Briton rally with an old fashioned three-point play. The run continued as Payne sandwiched layups around a free throw by Curry. Albion extended the margin to 31-15 with three minutes remaining in the first half and it led 37-20 at halftime.

Nelson produced a double-double for the second consecutive game. She produced a career-high 20 points, shooting 9-of-14 from the field, and 11 rebounds. Payne collected her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Curry fell a point shy of her career-high, chipping in with 12 points off the bench.

Albion shot a season-best 46 percent, knocking down 29-of-63 shots from the field. The Britons also finished with a whopping 54-30 edge in rebounds.

Albion, 3-0 to start the season for the first time since 2008, will go in search of another victory tomorrow afternoon when it meets Allegheny (Pa.) College on the second day of the tournament.
