ALBION, Mich. – Albion College settled for a split of its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader with Trine University because it was unable to score a runner in scoring position with one out in the eighth inning in game two.

After taking game one, 3-1, the Britons rallied from a 7-2 deficit in game two only to fall 10-8 in nine innings.

Errors on consecutive plays helped Trine plate five runs in the fifth inning. Kyle Auernhammer provided the big blow with a two-run home run to left field.

Albion forced extra innings as Shane Lindemann came off the bench to produce a pair of RBI singles, Davin Montgomery hit a two-run single, and Dan Mills and Brendan Diamond collected RBI singles.

Jordan Baer drove in the winning runs for Trine with a one-out home run in the ninth.

Game One

 Starting pitcher Craig Conway worked six scoreless innings to gain his first victory of the season and Spencer Bonofiglio and Kyle Kowal hit RBI singles in the fourth.

Conway's line included three hits, three walks and five strikeouts.

In the doubleheader

Bonofiglio hit .500 in the doubleheader, going 3-for-6 with a double and a home run. He finished the day with a .625 on base percentage after drawing a walk and getting hit by a pitch.

Joshua Fisher, Lindemann and Montgomery also collected three hits Saturday.

Albion and Trine will complete the four-game series with a Sunday doubleheader at Jannen Field in Angola, Ind.
