Britons Fall In Pitching Duels

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ANGOLA, Ind. – Just two series into its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule, Albion College faces an uphill climb in its quest to qualify for the league tournament. The Britons' league record dropped to 2-6 after it took a pair of one-run losses, 2-1 and 3-2, at Trine University.

Albion received fine pitching performances, but did not come away with the result it wanted.

Game one starter Nate Brubaker worked six innings, yielding a run on five hits and two walks. Reliever Bob Green took the game one loss, allowing an unearned run, a hit and a walk.

Matt Temrowski produced the best start of his career in game two, working into the sixth inning and allowing a run on three hits. Bill Radatz and Gunnar Owens combined for five innings of scoreless relief.

Albion forged a 1-1 tie when Michael Fischbach produced an infield single to score Dan Mills in the sixth inning. Trine scored the winning run in the seventh when the Briton third baseman's throw to first on a sacrifice bunt sailed into right field allowing Jeff Phillips to cross the plate.

In game two, Albion took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Tony Cappelletty stole home and a 2-1 lead in the 13th when Ben Crawford singled to score Shane Lindemann. Lindemann collected two of Albion's eight hits in the nightcap.

Albion is scheduled to meet Kalamazoo College in its next MIAA series. The games at Albion's Frank Joranko Field are slated for April 5.
