ANGOLA, Ind. - Albion College launched the track & field season by competing in a non-scored meet at Trine University.
Mitch Clinton and Alex Demody finished first and third, respectively, in the 3,000 meters and Jon Haadsma was the runner-up in the 800 meters. Dermody's time of 9:14.22 was a personal record, while Clinton reached the finish in 8:56.59. Haadsma completed his race in 2:04.60.
Albion also picked up first place in the 4x400 relay where Ben Kolanowski, Brant McCollum, Chris Bratt and Markeese Boyd achieved a time of 3:40.44.
Nick Bertoia and Andrew Strzelecki achieved personal best results. Bertoia set times of 7.49 in the 60 meters and 24.36 in the 200, while Strzelecki set a distance of 12.36 meters in the weight throw.
Coach Lance Coleman noted, "We enjoyed really promising starts to their collegiate career by Cole Davis (triple jump), Robert Petersen (600m/200m), Zane Brooks, Jon Haadsma and Mark Klingel in the distances and Markeese Boyd and Chris Bratt in the sprints/hurdles and 1600m relay."
